Born in Pulaski, Tennessee, Shirley Woodson studied at Wayne University in Detroit, MI and The Art Institute of Chicago. She received the MacDowell Colony Fellowship, Residence Artist for the Brandywine workshop, Individual Artists Grant for Michigan, among many others.
