Hunt was born in Chicago, and received education at the Art Institute of Chicago. He is considered a major African-American Artist. He taught at the Art Institute and was also a visiting professor at Yale University, Northwestern University, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, and Harvard University. He has won the Guggenheim Fellowship and many others.
