From Brooklyn, New York, Stevens is an educator and painter, whose work specialized in complex figurative drawings. He taught at Cleveland public schools as well as The University of Massachusetts. During the 1970’s, he was a member of the Chicago-based AFRICOBRA, an artist group who created works of the black community. Stevens art is featured in the major exhibition now at the Brooklyn Museum, Soul of a Nation: Art In The Age of Black Power.
