Hunt was born in Chicago, and received education at the Art Institute of Chicago.  He is considered a major African-American Artist.  He taught at the Art Institute and was also a visiting professor at Yale University, Northwestern University, Washington University, St. Louis, Missouri, and Harvard University.  He has won the Guggenheim Fellowship and many others.  Hunt was recently honored by the Art Institute of Chicago, receiving their Legends and Legacy Award in 2022.
