Fitzsimmons studied at Washington University School of Fine Arts and taught at St. Louis University. He worked in varied media including Acrylics, Oils, Watercolors, Pastels, Charcoal and Pen and Ink. He considered himself an impressionist and excelled in works displaying the desert, head studies and full figure paintings.
