Meert studied at Kansas City Art Institute and at Art Students League with Benton, Sloan and Boardman Robinson. Benton considered Meert his best student and had him take over his classes at Kansas City Art Institute while Benton did the Missouri capitol murals. Meert participated in the Works Progress Administration by painting 3 murals. Benton thought Meert was his best student. Meert took over Benton’s classes at the Kansas City Art Institute while Benton was painting the Missouri Capitol murals. Meert was also Jackson Pollock’s friend and colleague. He saved Pollock’s life.
