An abstract expressionist teacher, printmaker and artist, born in Germany, studied at Bauhaus and came to the U.S. in 1930. His work is in most major museum collections, including the National Gallery of Art in D.C. He taught at Washington Univ. in St. Louis, was a founding member of American Abstract Artists group and head of New York WPA in last year of its existence.
