Michael Loew

(1907-1985)

Born in New York. He was an apprentice to a stained glass maker and formally studied at the Art Student League. He was an artist for the WPA during the 1930s. By 1946, his works were mainly abstract. Loew began teaching at the University of California at Berkley and the School of Visual Arts in NYC in 1956. He was a lifelong friend of artist Willem de Kooning.
