Clover Vail Biography
Vail was originally born in Switzerland to American parents and came to America when her family was fleeing the German invasion of France where they lived at that time. Her family remained in New York for several years. When the war eventually ended they moved back to France. She went to school in Paris and also attended the American Army schools in Germany for four years until she returned to America in 1951. She then attended Bennington College where she studied under Paul Freeley and Tony Smith. She received a Masters Degree from Hunter College. She’s a member of the American Abstract Group.
Clover Vail Art Style
Vail has worked with several mediums including oils, watercolors, acrylic molding paste and ink. Her abstracts are bold and range from two color works to vibrant colors. Her many varied themes range from geometric shapes to more free moving lines. Her work causes you to pause and lean in to study the contrasts she has created. Her works have been shown in many contemporary art museums around the world.
